Terms of Service

Last updated: 9 August 2026

These terms are written to be read. They cover your use of yappy — the app, the website, and the developer tools at yappy.gg. If you use yappy, you agree to them.

1. Your account

You need an email address, a password and a username. You must be at least 13 years old (or older where your country requires it). You are responsible for what happens under your account and for keeping your password to yourself.

There is currently no password reset. If you forget your password, we cannot yet recover the account for you. Use a password manager.

2. Your content

What you post is yours. By posting it you give us the licence needed to do the obvious things a chat service does: store it, transmit it to the people you sent it to, and show previews of it in notifications and conversation lists. We do not sell your content and we do not use it for advertising.

3. What you must not do

Groups moderate themselves first — owners and the roles they appoint can remove content and members. On top of that, anything can be reported to us, and our staff can remove content and suspend accounts.

4. Suspension and removal

If your account is suspended, sign-in tells you until when. We suspend for the things in section 3, and the length depends on what happened. Repeated or severe violations end accounts permanently. We keep an internal audit log of every moderation action, tied to the staff member who took it.

5. Bots and the developer platform

You can build bots against our API. Bots are marked as bots everywhere they appear, act only with the permissions the group gives them, and must check the authority of the person invoking a command — the platform enforces this for buttons and command visibility, and your bot must not work around it. Tokens and webhook secrets are yours to protect; a leaked token is your bot until you rotate it. We may disable bots that break these terms or degrade the service.

6. The service itself

yappy is provided as it is, without warranties. We work to keep it up and to keep your data safe, but we cannot promise zero downtime or zero data loss — keep copies of anything you cannot afford to lose. To the extent the law allows, our liability is limited to what you paid us to use yappy, which today is nothing.

7. Ending things

You can delete your account at any time from Settings. We can terminate accounts that violate these terms. Deleted accounts keep their username reserved so nobody can impersonate the account that used to hold it.

8. Changes

If these terms change in a way that matters, we will say so in the app before the change takes effect. Continuing to use yappy after that is acceptance.
